Meta has rolled out a new range of AI-based video editing tools under its Meta AI platform, targeting content creators with short-form video enhancement features. These tools enable users to apply automated visual transformations using preset AI prompts, marking Meta’s latest push into generative video editing.
Available through the Meta AI app, the Meta.ai website, and a standalone app named Edits, the tools offer users in the U.S. the ability to quickly stylize short videos of up to 10 seconds. Edits, Meta’s alternative to apps like CapCut, is positioned as an accessible tool for casual creators as well as influencers.
The editing system is inspired by Meta’s internal Movie Gen AI models, though the company hasn’t clarified if those exact models are in use. Users can select from 50 different preset effects that include changes to clothing styles, scene settings, and visual filters. Effects range from comic book themes to cinematic lighting simulations.
These features are designed to cater to creators’ needs for fast and accessible editing workflows. Feedback from creators influenced the development of the presets, which can turn everyday clips into stylized content for quick sharing across Facebook and Instagram.
Meta has indicated that additional personalization options are planned for release later in 2025. For now, the focus is on making professional-looking video production more approachable and intuitive.
A Meta spokesperson explained, "Our aim is to let people experiment creatively and produce fun, shareable videos without needing advanced editing skills."
The update builds on Meta’s existing AI tools that focus on image generation, reinforcing the company's broader strategy of supporting creators within its platforms. The move mirrors a larger industry trend, with companies like Google and Captions also investing heavily in AI-powered media tools.
By adding AI video editing to its suite, Meta hopes to retain creators who might otherwise seek advanced tools elsewhere.
